How will your badminton training benefit my kid?

Your kid will develop badminton tactical awareness, which means that he/she will know the type of shots to play in order to outsmart the opponent. Your kid is also likely to move faster and last longer in matches.

How often and where are the training sessions conducted?

Pls sign up here and we will inform you of the next sparring event.

What are the ages of the kids in your badminton training session?

Current players are between the age of 8 to 16yrs old. We welcome all kids age 7 and above.

How many players will there be per training session?

We limit the number of kids to a maximum of 5 kids(usually 4) per court at each training session. Those who signed up for the whole term will be given a confirm slot while those who are on pay per session will depends on availability.

Why is there a requirement for all players to have basic badminton skills?

As the kids will be playing badminton matches against each other, they are expected to be able to execute basic badminton shots like lob, drop, smash, net and lift consistently.

Can my kid join even though he/she is not in the badminton school team but has regular private badminton training?

Yes, as long as he is able to execute basic shots (see FAQ note above).

Will there be skill-based badminton training like shuttle feeding to improve hitting strokes?

Not during the sparring class. For skill-based training, pls refer to here.

How can I know if my child is suitable for competitive badminton?

First start your child first with a beginner class for 6-12mths. The class should ideally have not more than 5 students per class. This is to allow your child sufficient learning opportunity. After 6-12mths, consider these few points.

  • Does your child like the competitiveness nature of the sport?

  • Is your child learning and progressing well or better than his mates?

  • Does your child accept that hard work is part and parcel of training?

  • Finally, talk to your child and hear him/her out.

If your child prefers to take it slow, then you can keep the training once a week.

Switch to competitive training later when he/she is ready. Or simply keep it as a fun thing for him/her to learn a lifelong sport.

Why do you not have group training for beginners?

We don't offer group training for beginners because the early learning stage is crucial for developing proper basic strokes and skills. 1-to-1 training ensures that our coaches give full attention to your child, laying a strong foundation for future development as a competent player.

What will be the change when my child starts competitive badminton?

Weekly training frequency will increase from once a week to twice or thrice weekly. This is outside the school training.

Group or 1-to-1 training?

We recommend 1-to-1 training for beginners but group training has it's merit as it provides them with the fun element of sports training and the opportunities to learn from each other.

1-to-1 training allow the coach to fully focus on your child. Development are faster with 1-to-1 training.

Should I consider DSA for my child?

Yes, if your child wants to continue to participate in badminton as a CCA at secondary school. If he is unsure, then it’s best not to try DSA as students that are admitted through DSA will have to take the sports/talent as one of his CCA in his secondary school life.

What will be the level my child has to achieve to be successful in DSA application?

It will largely depend on the popularity of the school that your child is applying to.

On the top end, to be successful in popular schools, your child should ideally be a regular finisher in the top 16/32  in SBA sanctioned competitions.

For other schools, your child may have a shot if he is a school team player.
